File System Balance View
Function:
To display the load balance between all file systems and raw partitions.
Description:
This view (a vertical bar graph) outlines the relative load over all file systems and raw partitions as a percentage of total load.
For maximum performance, the load balance between disk drives should be balanced. This view can help determine which file systems and raw partitions are most responsible for the load.
It is ideal to have as many drives as possible simultaneously operating. By locating the
user
file system and the
tmp
file system on opposing drives, the data can be read from the user file system and then written to the
tmp
file system without thrashing the disk head. Similarly, the
root
and
swap
partitions can be placed on different drives to maximize throughput.
If smoothing is activated, the total percentage may exceed 100%. This is due to the smoothing decay function and is no cause for concern. To view the exact balance, select

Smoothing
and set the value to 0 to deactivate smoothing.
