Whenever a system anomaly is detected, SCO Doctor automatically generates an Alert. Each alert uses the Inference Engine's intelligent capacity to assess the severity of the problem, and to provide possible remedies, before invoking corrective procedures and notifying the system administrator that a problem has been detected. An Alert Notice then outputs details of both the system anomaly and the recommended action, on your screen, by using an alert notice dialog box. You can enable, disable, edit or modify these alerts to suit your particular operational needs. If you are not running doctor at the time an alert is generated, or choose not to accept alert notices, the incoming alert will be added to a chronological Alert Notice Queue which will accumulate alerts until you choose to receive alert notices again.
If you have enabled alerts, an alert notice may appear on your screen at any time. When an alert notice is displayed, you have several options. Minor problems can be noted, and the alert cleared by selecting the OK button. If the alert recommends an action that requires approval, you can approve that operation or edit the operation or just ignore the alert altogether. If a serious alert is received, you can select the Connect button to establish a monitoring session with the system.
SCO Doctor includes a library of standard alerts, however, you may also create your own to extend the detection capacity of doctor to suit your operational environment.
