The Disk Alert

Function:

To determine if the system has a disk bottleneck.

Description:

This alert is triggered when the system develops a disk bottleneck. It measures the current disk throughput as a percentage of the maximum disk throughput. The default threshold is set relatively low, as the maximum disk throughput statistic is calculated using a contiguous data read test. Normal disk I/O is quite fragmented and the maximum disk throughput levels are rarely achieved. Thus, a disk load of 40% is quite substantial.

Period - 723 seconds

Threshold - 70%

Action Program - none

Schedule - * * * * * Any time

Status - Enabled by default

Priority - Warning

I/O Rate - The amount of I/O performed in the last second. This is calculated from several database elements.
